Archives Volunteers Needed

October 30, 2020 //  by Cass Kaminetz

Help us preserve our invaluable collection for future generations.

RSFHS is looking for volunteers of all ages to help with the digital archives project, an initiative to make publicly accessible all archival holdings via the RSFHS website. We are looking for multiple volunteers interested in the following tasks:

  • Scanning and digitizing archival materials, including photographs, newspapers, correspondence, drawings, and pamphlets;
  • Creating container lists for the archival boxes in the storage room (will involve lots of reading and learning about RSF!);
  • Researching and drafting posts of interest to RSFHS’s social media accounts such as Facebook and Twitter;
  • Photographing the space and some of the materials that cannot be scanned, such as objects and larger flat items;
  • Other archives tasks as needed.

This will be a perfect opportunity for archives and library science students, historians (or history buffs), or high school students looking for exposure and willing to take ownership of a project. However, the opportunity is open to anyone – we’d love to hear from you! Email us at archives@rsfhs.org or give us a call at 858-756-9291.

RSFHS takes Covid precautions seriously and will make sure our volunteers feel safe and distanced. We currently require masks when working in and visiting the space, and operate with a maximum capacity of 10 people indoors.

Coronavirus Pandemic: Tell Your Story

July 2, 2020 //  by info@rsfhs.org

The past few months have been turbulent for all of us. In keeping with its mission to preserve local history, RSFHS is collecting the written thoughts and insights from local residents about how the Coronavirus Pandemic and subsequent Stay at Home Orders and closures have affected you. Tell us what you have learned to appreciate, such as more time with family, hobbies, and rediscovering a simpler life. Let us know what you miss, perhaps going out to dinner with friends, attending live concerts or sports, or seeing colleagues or fellow students. What you would have done differently? Any wisdom you earned and want to share is appreciated. Submissions from locals of all ages are welcome, and may be used on our website or future newsletters as part of an archived compilation of community experience. Thank you for being a part of Rancho Santa Fe’s history!

Coronavirus Pandemic Narratives

  • How would you like your name to appear (for example, you could use your full name, first name and last initial, first and last initial, etc.)
  • Tell us anything about your Coronavirus experience, keeping in mind what future generations might like to know about what it was like to live through this.
  • Share any other relevant information you’d like us to know.
